Become a GRSC Member
GRSC is a friendly community of approximately 50 members representing various dockage areas, marinas, and yacht clubs along the scenic Grand River and surrounding Lake Erie shoreline. Since our founding in 1981, we’ve proudly hosted hundreds of sailboat racing and cruising events that celebrate camaraderie, seamanship, and a shared love of sailing.
Join us throughout the season to experience exciting racing events and scenic cruises on Lake County’s beautiful waters. Whether you’re racing or cruising, there’s always a new adventure to enjoy with the Grand River Sailing Club.
Plus, our low-cost membership allows you to race whether you own a sailboat or not!
Racing
Racing is at the heart of GRSC, often followed by lively get togethers where stories are shared and friendships grow.
Our racing program adheres to the guidelines set by the Inter-Lake Yachting Association (I-LYA), Performance Handicap Racing Formula (PHRF), and US Sailing. GRSC fields both Spinnaker and JAM (jib and main only) fleets, welcoming sailors of various skill levels and interests.
Courses are designed with eight turning marks and two starting marks, offering flexibility for race committees to adapt to daily wind and water conditions. Our racing calendar is thoughtfully planned around major Lake Erie regattas, so members can participate in both without missing GRSC series races.
Every racer serves as the committee boat once per season, selected by lottery. August brings our annual GRSC Regatta, and throughout the season, we also host informal holiday races and “fun” events open to all members. When volunteers are available, we offer novice racing clinics to help newcomers gain confidence on the water.
Cruising
Our cruising community is equally active and welcoming. The highlight of the season is the annual Independence Day weekend cruise, often accompanied by picnics and other relaxed social events that make the most of summer on the water.
Social & Community
GRSC fosters a strong sense of connection beyond the dock and host four general membership events each year:
- Spring General Membership Dinner & Meeting
- Regatta Opening Party
- Fall Banquet & Officer Elections
- Additional social gatherings throughout the season
Membership
If you’re interested in joining GRSC, we’d love to meet you! Prospective members must be sponsored by a current member and a club officer and present their application at a board meeting. We encourage all those curious about GRSC to attend one of our meetings or social events—you’ll be warmly welcomed.
